Ramsey County is Making History...
- How do the places where children live, learn and play affect their health and development?
- Why do health conditions such as asthma, autism, obesity, and diabetes seem to be on the rise in children?
The National Children’s Study (NCS) is a long-term research study which seeks to answer these and many other questions about the role of the environment on children’s health and development. It will follow 100,000 children throughout the United States from before birth through age 21. It could improve children’s health for generations to come.
The University of Minnesota is leading the study here in Ramsey County, one of 37 sites where the Study is underway. They are currently enrolling women who live in Ramsey County, are pregnant or planning a pregnancy in the near future, and live in one of the Study’s randomly selected neighborhoods. The study is observational-no treatments or medications are involved. There is compensation provided.
Our whole community has a stake in seeing the National Children’s study succeed. Community Outreach and Engagement Staff from the NCS have been working not only on recruiting participants into the study, but also on projects that are giving back to the Ramsey County community. This past spring, staff from the Study participated in the spring gardening kickoff event with Frog town Gardens and helped plant trees at Crosby Farm in St Paul.
